GRAINS / WHEAT
An old wheat species with large blond grains that are used in the production of pasta. Rivet has branched heads like Vavilov and is also bearded. Black awns.
Triticum turgidum. Grown primarily in temperate areas and is native to countries around the eastern Mediterranean, down to Iran and east to Xinjiang, China. It is in flower from June to July, and the seeds ripen from August to September.
Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and prefers well-drained soil. Suitable pH: mildly acid, neutral and basic (mildly alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It prefers moist soil. The plant can tolerate strong winds, but not maritime exposure.
